KTB was founded as a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation in 2008 to support South Boulder baseball. KTB runs the American Legion program for the players attending Fairview High School as well as a feeder program consisting of 13/14 year old players. KTB’s programs go year-round to fill the need when the players are not playing for Fairview. The programs at the high school level are completely separate. Fairview High School and Boulder Valley School District run the spring season, while KTB runs the summer, fall and winter programs. KTB has its own board of directors and is completely independent financially. The two programs mesh together nicely due to the fact that Rick Harig is the Director of Baseball for KTB and also the Legion A head coach and FHS Varsity head coach. It is important to note that it is not required to play for the KTB program to be able to play at FHS.
Fairview based programs have been very successful over the last 25 years. The Fairview based Legion teams have won 8 state titles in that time, two semifinal experiences in the Western Regional, one Legion Regional runner up finish, as well as two American Legion World Series appearances.
The philosophy of KTB is to teach life lessons through baseball. Successful baseball players are made - not born, just like successful American Citizens. The love of baseball is the foundation to accomplish this success. Through skills training, physical training, games, extensive practice and understanding the mental side of the game, KTB and FHS players can excel in baseball and in life, and often go on to play college baseball. The program has put at least 75 players into the college ranks over the last 25 years. Perhaps the most recent famous players are Jesse Crain - Minnesota Twins and Kevin Russo - New York Yankees.
